Job Description

Position Overview

As an Electrical Engineer Ii you will be responsible for managing the operations of Invenergy's existing Solar assets. You will monitor and drive continuous operation of the fleet.

Responsibilities:

  • Support operating and new Solar facilities with electrical procedure development and evaluation of new inverter and tracker product lines.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues with Inverters, Panel Tracker Systems, Solar Arrays, and LV DC Systems.
  • Manage balance of plant electrical maintenance program, including testing and inspections of combiners, inverters, trackers, and panels.
  • Support operating Solar facilities with electrical troubleshooting, including review of digital fault records, relays, and other operational data for planned and unplanned electrical events.
  • Evaluate performance of the solar facility and mitigate underperformance with OEMs.
  • Evaluate inverter and PV control technology during the interconnection and design stages of new construction to meet interconnection and project controls requirements.
  • Primary interface for electrical issues at Solar facilities for site personnel, contractors, equipment manufacturers & consulting engineers.
  • Review and manage as-built site documentation including electrical drawings, schematics, bill of materials, electrical studies, test reports and relay settings.
  • Support operating Solar facilities in electrical issues affecting Solar Panel/generation technology.
  • Support project and construction managers on new project commissioning and turnover for Solar developments.
  • Lead long-term action items and projects to improve reliability or efficiency of electrical systems.
  • Manage root cause analyses to identify potential future risks, and drive fleet-wide corrective action plans.
  • Conduct reviews of various system studies essential to reliability and steady state operations of fleet.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 1-5 years of work experience
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Problem solving and critical thinking
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
  • Strong project management skills
  • Some travel is required

Preferred Skills
  • Degree concentration in Power Systems or Renewable Energy Systems
  • Experience with OSIsoft PI products
  • Experience with energy technology, specifically Solar Panels
  • Experience with Power Electronics, SMA, TMEIC, Sungrow Inverters
  • Experience with NextTracker, ATI, and FTC Trackers
  • Experience with MV (AC)/LV (DC) electrical infrastructure (collector cabling, combiner and re-combiners, meters, inverters, trackers, MET stations and subcomponents)
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, ASCE and ANSI/IEEE standards and codes.
  • Understanding of RTU/RTACs, control systems, communication networks, and HMIs
  • Knowledge in compliance and reliability standards associated with NERC, FERC, and ISOs
  • Understanding of Electrical Safety Practices
