EHS & Ergonomics Program Manager

Union City, Georgia

Position Summary:

This role will perform a variety of professional duties to mitigate environmental, health, safety (EHS), sustainability and ergonomic risks and ensure compliance at the Zoetis manufacturing facility located in Union City, CA. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spilt his/her time 50-50 between completing ergonomics-related duties and providing general EHS support. This role may participate on a rotational team that could include evening or weekend hours.

Position Responsibilities:


  • Develops and completes ergonomic assessments and monitors work areas and job tasks; recommends appropriate engineering or work process modifications to prevent employee illness or injury; and provides follow-up assessments and recommendations.
  • Collaborates with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and other teams to develop and implement ergonomically acceptable solutions. Educates colleagues in ergonomic concepts related to their tasks or work area.
  • Leads the site's pre-shift workplace stretching program. Revises program, as needed.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the site's EHS programs and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, federal and company requirements.
  • Provides new-hire EHS orientation, refresher training and consultation.
  • Leads the site's Emergency Response Team, Safety Committee and Green Team and proactively drives a positive safety and sustainability culture.
  • Completes safety walks, environmental inspections and other related evaluations, as needed.
  • Develops EHS notices, postings, newsletter and other communications, as requested.
  • Manages the site's waste management room. Arranges and coordinate waste disposal contractors and services. Executes waste manifests and other related documents.
  • Prepares reports and collects metrics and other data to communicate EHS performance status.
  • Maintains records as required by GMP, FDA, CalOSHA, EPA and company's policies.

Technical Skills and Competencies Required

  • Strong knowledge of ergonomic design and principles.
  • Thorough knowledge and interpretation of federal and California safety and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Solid computer capabilities including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, work independently, easily make decisions, and handle emergency situations.
Organizational Relationships

This role will report to the site's EHS Manager and will interact with Operations, R&D, Facilities, Engineering, Quality, Distribution, and office operations including working with all levels of the organization and be visible in the operational areas to support a safe and compliant work environment.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in ergonomics, kinesiology, environment, safety, occupational health, engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 4 to 7 years of direct, full-time experience.
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical or chemical industry is preferred.
