Position Summary:

The IT Director Data Strategy & Governance is a key role within Information Technology at Ferrara Candy Company. As such, this position reports directly to the CIO. Effective management of data as an asset that drives results and company performance is essential to Ferrara's continued growth.

The IT Director Data Strategy & Governance is accountable for building and maintaining the entire view of Ferrara's Master Data Landscape. The goal is to drive consistent management of master data across all business functions, systems and channels. The scope goes beyond internal Ferrara to include trading partners, customers, consumers, vendors, sub-contractors and co-manufacturers. This includes the uniformity, stewardship, consistency, and overall quality of data that is used both within and outside the enterprise.

This leader will work directly with Cross-functional Business leaders, Master Data teams, IT Leaders and external service providers to identify opportunities to optimize processes, establish governance rules and build a framework which can scale. They will ensure that we have the ability to extend, integrate and optimize master data across the Ferrara ecosystem. Our analytics platforms will be optimized as a result of the sound data foundation.

To be successful in this role the applicant must have a proven record of leading efforts that define processes, policies, rules and standards that have improved data quality. The ability to explain the consequences of sub-standard/poor data management in business terms is not only highly valued but necessary for this role.

Ways You Will Make a Difference:

Data Governance Strategy & Integration

  • Develop a cohesive, easy to understand strategic vision, implementation roadmap and communication plan for Master Data Governance that is aligned with Ferrara's overall strategic vision.
  • Design and build the appropriate Data Governance Steering Committee, Data Councils, and Data Communities across all relevant business functions and technical platforms.
  • Establish an enterprise-wide program to govern processes, policies, rules and standards by which Ferrara will manage its most critical data.
  • Define ownership and accountability of our critical data assets to ensure they are effectively managed and maintain integrity throughout Ferrara's systems
  • Develop a business case to utilize industry proven standard technologies and existing Ferrara platforms that support process automation and the preservation of data integrity (e.g. MDG).
  • Ensure that that data is interoperable across all representative technology domains including but not limited to SAP (ECC, APO, PLM, BOBJ etc.), Product Information Management (PIM), CRM (SFDC), Data Syndication (i.e. 1WorldSynch), Blue Planner (TPM), WM and Transportation Management.
  • Incorporate core process areas including but not limited to Plan to Manufacturer, Order to Cash, Source to Pay, Make to Deliver, Trade Promotions, Revenue Management, PLM, Quality and Food Safety, Customer/Consumer Care and Record-to-Report.


Project Leadership & Solution Design and Delivery
  • Appropriate, approved prioritization of initiatives, projects as well as the roll out of processes is within the scope and ownership of this role.
  • Development of business cases when investments are necessary to advance the goals and objectives of the Master Data function.
  • Be the key leader and point person for all initiatives related to data integration, data delivery and data governance.
  • Recognize that at times, business projects have a direct linkage to the Master Data Management function.
  • Work closely with the IT PMO to track all projects. Identify projects risks and advance risk mitigation strategies escalating as required to make sure that the portfolio of projects und the Master Data umbrella are staying on track from a timeline and budget perspective.


External Partner Management
  • When necessary select partners that are the best fit for Ferrara and are aligned to the Ferrara IT strategy.
  • Ensure that our strategic partners operate as an extension of the Ferrara team and are acting in the best interests of Ferrara.
  • Proactively manage and escalate as necessary situations where our external partners are not meeting our needs and delivering on their commitments.
  • Seek thought leadership from our external partners.

Application/Technology Management
  • Utilize our existing technology investments before investing in other solutions that could be redundant.
  • Understand the application architecture and essential elements of how application design and configuration meet the needs of the business.
  • Ensure that there are high levels of interoperability amongst the Ferrara technical landscape when it comes to the Master Data design.
  • Understand when and how technology upgrades/technology solution should be applied to existing systems and the impact that those upgrades have on the business as it applies to new functionality and the potential disruption of services.
  • Meet our Service Level Agreements when it comes to beak/fixes and system bugs. Apply ITIL methods to managing incidents.
  • Meet established System performance metrics.


Experiences That Will Support Your Success
  • 10 years of overall master data experience with at least 7 years-experience in a senior-level master data management role.
  • 7 or more years of experience in developing strategy and delivering Master Data initiatives to the business.
  • Proven record of rolling out data governance and management principles and concepts across a . Well versed in data governance best practices.
  • Broad knowledge of technologies that are used to govern and manage data across multiple technical platforms. At least one experience rolling out a Master Data Governance tool successfully.
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally in a matrix structure and influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to think strategically while operating tactically to implement global data standards and global technical/process solutions.
  • Ability to meet the rigorous deadlines of a growth company; ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities, coordinate and manage multiple projects
  • Must have SAP Master Data Experience (Materials, Customers, Vendors, BOMs, etc.)
  • Must have CPG/Manufacturing experience

  • Occasional travel required.
