Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Performs cleaning and restoration of various hard floor surfaces to include Terrazzo, several types of tile, wood, concrete and other surfaces as determined by management.
  • Provides other floor care to include carpet.
  • Performs work as required in assigned Zone.
  • Provides specialized floor care for all zones in the Building Services Division.
  • The hard floor work includes top scrubbing, stripping, burnishing, and refinishing.
  • The carpet work includes vacuuming, stain treatment/removal, water extraction, drying and raking.
  • All floor work includes room preparation, furniture removal/replacement, equipment and chemical transport and post operation equipment cleaning.
  • Work will be assigned via work requests provided by Building Services management.
  • Responsible for transportation of equipment to daily job site.
  • The night manager and zone supervisors will provide daily supervision.
  • Performs custodial duties such as: Cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Performs routine light maintance activities and cleans snow or debris from sidewalk.
  • Leads special project work as needed.
  • Campus security and duties as assigned by management.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides structure and oversight for entry-level employees. Prioritizes work assignments within a given routine and assigns tasks. Participates in performing custodial duties. Monitors work for quality, accuracy, and completeness to ensure compliance with departmental sanitation standards.
  • Manages and controls equipment and chemicals assigned to a given routine. Maintains and orders supplies.
  • Inspects assigned areas and equipment to ensure that the quality of care is consistent with departmental standards.
  • Reports staff concerns, areas of deficiency, and any need for building maintenance to the shift supervisor for appropriate action.
  • Trains new employees on cleaning procedures, equipment, products, departmental policies, and standards. May review and approve timesheets.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/ WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) with 1year of custodial experience and demonstrated leadership skills OR
  • General knowledge at the high school level with 2 years of experience at the foundational custodian level and demonstrated leadership skills
LICESNSE AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred
  • Certified Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCCT)- Certified Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCCT) is a certification program offered by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration
  • Certification (IICRC). The CCCT certification is designed to recognize individuals who have demonstrated knowledge in the field of carpet cleaning
  • Certified Hard Surface Floor Care Technician (CHSFCT)- Certified Hard Surface Floor Care Technician (CHSFCT) is a certification program designed to recognize professional floor care technicians who have demonstrated expertise in the field. The program provides an objective measure of knowledge and skill for those who perform hard surface floor care services
  • Possesses a valid Indiana driver's license with acceptable driving record to be insurable by Indiana University

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. Ability to move objects weighing up to 80 pounds of supplies or equipment intermittently. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Must be available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.

$37,062.40 - $39,062.40 per year
