Description:

The Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in the non-tenure academic clinician track. Expertise is required in the specific area of critical care anesthesia. At the current time, we are particularly interested in candidates with cardiac critical care and neurocritical care experience. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. ABA certification in anesthesiology or status as a candidate in the examination system along with ability to obtain a Pennsylvania license are required.

Teaching responsibilities may include the instruction of medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the operating rooms and wards of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC), and Pennsylvania Hospital (PAH), as well as participation in lectures, small groups, workshops, and/or simulation sessions.

Clinical responsibilities may include the provision of critical care services at HUP, PPMC, and PAH, as well as provision of clinical anesthesia services at HUP or PPMC. There are additional opportunities to participate in our innovative critical care programs, including tele-critical care and mobile ECMO. Our intensivists usually have one "home" unit and may rotate through one or two additional ICUs depending on the number of ICU weeks worked.

The Academic Clinician track emphasizes clinical and teaching excellence. Are you interested in this position but are unsure about if it's the right fit? We welcome prospective candidates to visit the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Faculty Life and Professional Development website to learn more about the different tracks: https://www.med.upenn.edu/flpd/career-development/

We are an inclusive department seeking candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. Candidates will be asked about prior activities that promote diversity, inclusion, and care equity. The University of Pennsylvania is an EOE. Women and non-binary individuals, those from ethnic and racial minority groups, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
