Under general supervision of department management, installs, operates and maintains all chemical storage and delivery systems.
Performs related work as required.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Operates chemical delivery systems to regulate the flow rate of chemicals into the source water within safe limits for beneficial water treatment.
  • Calibrates all equipment associated with chemical delivery systems.
  • Takes samples as required, makes standardized quality control tests, and adjusts chemical delivery systems and other plant equipment as required.
  • Observes levels of all chemical storage and compares them to the instrument level signals and reports disparities; contacts vendors to order and deliver chemicals as needed.
    Submits written reports as required.
  • Repairs leaks within chemical delivery systems.
  • Uses tools and diagnostic equipment, such as a laptop computer, to make limited repairs and software programming adjustments to all chemical delivery systems. Confers with a control systems technician as necessary to diagnose problems with interfacing instruments or telemetry devices.
  • Manages an inventory of spare parts, and under the direction and approval of department management, orders materials as necessary.
  • Attends required training, adhere to health and safety practices at all times, assure work is done in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with Company policy and safety standards and report to supervisors any irregularities or safety hazards.
  • Maintains chemical delivery system equipment to meet county hazardous material and national fire code requirements at the direction of management. Periodically tests and repairs leak and spill alarms.
  • Provides shift relief for System Operator positions as needed.
  • California Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator and Grade 2 Water Treatment Operator certification(s) at time of bid.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • A minimum of 1 year working experience as an Operator in the Operations or Water Quality Departments within the last 3 years, or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to utilize personal computer (or any other technology platform) and related software applications necessary to review system maps/records, submit and complete trouble tags, and access/review procedures, policies, other company documentation and reporting tools.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to perform strenuous outdoor physical work requiring manual dexterity, agility, strength, stamina and coordination.
