Chair, Department of Medicine


West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine seeks a creative, dynamic, and collaborative servant leader and mentor to serve as its next Chair of the Department of Medicine in Morgantown, WV. He/she should have an established track record as an excellent physician-educator or   physician-scholar with a vision for the future of medical education, the discovery of knowledge, and high-quality, compassionate, patient-centered care.

The Department of Medicine is the largest in the WVU School of Medicine and is composed of 11 sub-specialty divisions, 221 physician faculty, 137 advanced practice providers, and 160 physician trainees.   Duties of the Chair include providing strategic leadership and direction in all aspects of the Department. He/she will also bring proven leadership skills to the position, a service orientation, the ability to lead change in a collegial manner, and be able to successfully leverage the many collaborative opportunities that exist.    

The position requires an individual with strong interpersonal and leadership skills, clinical expertise, and demonstrated scholarship.  Administrative experience should include strategic planning, finance/budgeting, quality, operations, and recruitment. An understanding of critical issues in rural healthcare is highly desired.  
 

Qualifications

Applicants must be board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, have MD or DO, and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted West Virginia medical license. A minimum of five years of administrative experience in an academic medical center, and a commitment to service, teaching, and research. Applicants must be eligible for Associate or Professor rank in the clinical or tenure track. Applicants must meet all requirements by the time of appointment. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The WVU Medicine System, has more than 23,000 employees; 2,200 clinicians; and more than 2.5 million patient visits annually. We are currently actively recruiting over 150 new physicians due to sustained growth in our clinical enterprise.
