How you can make a bigger difference:

Jewish Community Services (JCS) provides an array of services to help New York City's Jewish community address challenging problems, such as life-threatening medical condition, misuse of alcohol and other substances, family caregiving, loss and bereavement. Services are provided to individuals, groups, communities and synagogues. JCS provides concrete assistance, information and referral, short-term case management and supportive counseling, spiritual care, consultation services, education and workshops, crisis helpline for substance abuse and self-help recovery services.

Will work collaboratively with social workers and clinical coordinators at JCS, within other Jewish Board programs, and with other agency partners. Provide clinical case management to victims of domestic violence and their families and ensure that each client is receiving the full spectrum of services of available and will liaison with all providers. Work closely with the Jewish Board's domestic violence shelters, if a client is in need of placement. Additionally, the case planner will work collaboratively with the Jewish Board's Big Brother Big Sister program, to help strengthen its focus and reach within the Jewish Community.

Qualifications:

  • BA in helping profession; at least 1 year experience preferred.
  • Experience working with clients with mental health conditions preferred.
  • Two years of related experience specific to the Jewish Community.
  • Must have the ability to work individually on projects as well as be a team player.
  • Hebrew, Yiddish, and/or Russian language a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess and address any safety and risk concerns related to client's health, safety and well-being.
  • Identify and provide access to specific concrete services and community resources, when necessary or requested.
  • Collaborate with external resources in the client's ecology e.g. school, medical provider, mental health providers, lawyers, extended family and community members, etc.
  • Refer clients and families to supportive and concrete services, i.e. mental health, substance abuse, housing, financial assistance, legal, etc.
  • Performs outreach to communities and establish linkages with other groups, individuals or organizations which may be helpful to clients.
  • Develop culturally sensitive marketing tools and outreach materials, and otherwise raise the profile for Jewish participant partnerships in the BBBS program.
  • Share volunteer management with BBBS program manager as it related to the Jewish cohort.

Work Environment:

  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required; some local travel.
