Purpose

The Benefits Analyst position will have an opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of complex activities and initiatives involving the administration and operation of our qualified and non-qualified retirement benefit programs. Using analytical, organization, and communication skills, this position is responsible for managing and reconciling sensitive data, maintaining compliance with plan provisions and government regulations, ensuring employee benefit inquiries are resolved timely and accurately, and efficiently leveraging our internal resources and external partners. A successful candidate should meet required deadlines routinely, prioritize their workload efficiently, and be organized and focused at all times.

Responsibilities

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):

  • Responsible for assisting with administration and operation of all qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, including contribution/funding reconciliation, distributions, benefit file coordination, and data maintenance.
  • Work closely with ERISA counsel, actuary, and consultants to ensure all retirement plans are compliant and strategic objectives are met.
  • Aid and support the preparation of compliance filings, non-discrimination testing, and annual true-up process.
  • Assist with benefit payment administration, reconciliation, and funding processes.
  • Prepare and provide monthly and periodic census data reconciliations.
  • Collect, verify, reconcile, and provide data to vendors as needed for computation of benefits, funding requirements, valuations, audits, and performance reporting.
  • Manage vendor relationships (trustee, insurance providers, etc.).
  • Research and resolve monthly actuarial related data questions and assist with special data remediation projects.
  • Investigate and respond to retirement benefit inquiries through the Service Now employee case management system.
  • Review monthly "death reports" and coordinate with external vendors and internal resources as needed.
  • Serve as point person for audit related employee data requests and research.
  • Use pension trustee system to review and distribute monthly/quarterly/annual reporting as needed.
  • Participate in union negotiation and regulatory discussions, as required.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects, as needed.

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience/Skills Desired:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or HR related field, plus at least 3 years' relevant experience.
  • MBA or other postgraduate related degree preferred, but not required.
  • General understanding of GAAP/IFRS and benefit plan accounting.
  • Ability to research and reconcile data issues and discrepancies.
  • Intermediate to Proficient Microsoft Excel skills.
  • SAP experience preferred, but not required (specifically reporting capabilities).
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with peers, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of processes, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidentiality in handling sensitive financial information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and succeed in a team environment.
