Position Summary

The Assistant Volleyball Coach is responsible for assisting various aspects of the volleyball program to include recruiting, scheduling opponents and organizing practice.

Salary Schedule: This is a part-time position on the Local Salary Schedule . Local Salary Schedule (L) 9 Month Appointment- $12,000 potential summer 3 month appointment for recruitment - $3,000

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assists Head Coach with recruiting and training members of the Volleyball Team.

2. Possesses thorough knowledge and conscientious adherence to the rules and regulations to meet LSCC, ACCC, and NJCAA deadlines for eligibility, stats, etc.

3. Possesses knowledge of Title IX, FERPA, and all applicable College policies and practices.

4. Demonstrates a strong technical knowledge of the game.

5. Demonstrate commitment to all facets of student athlete welfare including academic success and monitors student/athlete academic progress and study sessions.

6. Monitors conduct and discipline of the Volleyball program.

7. Assists with fundraising in support of the Volleyball program.

8. Schedules community services projects for the Volleyball program.

9. Attends LSCC Professional Development and Athletic Orientation.

10. Follows medical procedures for injured athletes.

11. Maintains exemplary personal and team conduct to reflect a positive image for the team and Lawson State, both on and off the playing area.

12. Monitor athletes before, during and after seasons.

13. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in team relationships with diverse students, faculty, staff, alumni, public and the media.

14. Possesses strong verbal and written communication skills.

15. Loves the game and desires to continue to grow the sport and the LSCC program.

16. Regular attendance at games is required.

17. Other duties as assigned.


The Assistant Volleyball Coach will be expected to work a flexible schedule which may include day, evenings, nights, weekends, some holidays and travel. This job description is a general statement of required major duties and responsibilities performed on a regular basis. It does not exclude other duties as assigned. REQUIRED EDUCATION, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING:

  1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution

OR

2. One (1) to three (3) years of coaching experience at the secondary, intercollegiate level, or higher

REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:

  1. CPR/AED certified (must become certified before season begins)
  2. May require driving, so must possess a valid Alabama driver's license and have a good driving record

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to make effective decisions and exhibit sound judgment.
  2. Ability to resolve conflict and promote a team spirit.
  3. Ability to motivate, encourage, mentor and support academic and athletic success.
  4. Ability to travel, work nights, weekends and some holidays.
