Position Summary

We seek candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2025 in the Clinical Psychology area of the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences with a research program focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in mental health, broadly defined. We are especially excited about applicants whose research focuses on racial and ethnic groups who have historically been marginalized, as well as first-generation populations, and/or communities disproportionally impacted by poverty to complement existing faculty members' programs of research with other marginalized populations (e.g., LGBTQ+, low-income). For example, topics such as a) enhanced understanding of mental health-related processes or outcomes among historically marginalized populations; b) development, evaluation, dissemination, and/or implementation of culturally responsive assessment and/or treatment approaches with historically underserved populations; c) systemic inequities that impact mental health or present barriers to treatment; and/or d) disparities in access to or efficacy of evidence-based treatments. We anticipate that a range of research programs focusing on historically marginalized, minoritized, or underserved populations beyond these specific examples above would also match the position and departmental needs and encourage interested applicants to apply. We see possibilities for a scholar to connect with our department's current research at many methodological levels, for example, basic science, prevention, screening and assessment, intervention, and/or implementation.

Our department values a developmental approach with many of our faculty having interests in human development, especially during the prenatal period, infancy and early childhood, middle childhood/school-age, adolescence, and emerging adulthood. Many faculty also share an interest in understanding stress, early experiences, and development. A developmental focus is not required for this position, but it is a good fit for many of our department's strengths and ongoing programs of research. Candidates should articulate developmental interests or research focus if they are part of their current or future research plans. Candidates should describe how their research connects to and complements the existing research strengths of our clinical faculty and other departmental faculty.

Successful applicants will have an outstanding record of research achievement and a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, including classroom teaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision in evidence-based approaches. All core clinical faculty are expected to serve as clinical supervisors in the Center for Child and Family Psychology; thus, candidates should be currently licensed as a psychologist or license-eligible in Colorado. We are particularly interested in candidates whose professional expertise and/or lived experiences inform their commitment to advancing the principles and practice of DEI in their research, teaching, and service.

Essential Functions

  • All candidates should have a strong commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education and demonstrated aptitude for excellence in teaching, including classroom teaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision in evidence-based approaches.
  • Maintain an ongoing research program.
  • Teach 4 course equivalents per year (on the quarter system) as assigned, divided among graduate and undergraduate courses; including University and department core requirements, elective and specialized courses, and clinical supervision.
  • Supervise graduate student research projects, theses, and dissertations.
  • Participate in department and university citizenship and service activities commensurate with a full-time faculty member.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. from an accredited Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology or another relevant mental health program (ABD considered for an Assistant Professor hire with completion date before 9-1-2025 If dissertation is not complete, individual will hold the title of Instructor).
  • Licensed as a psychologist, or licensed-eligible as a psychologist in the state of Colorado.
  • Demonstrated production of high-quality research appropriate for area of study.
  • Potential to pursue research funding appropriate for area of study.
  • Strong potential for high-quality teaching and mentoring.
  • Strong potential for high-quality clinical supervision in evidence-based approaches.
  • Strong potential for working effectively in research and clinical settings with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong programmatic research portfolio with evidence of funding commensurate with career stage.
  • Evidence of high-quality teaching, mentoring, and clinical supervision.
  • Evidence of supervising evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches.

Working Environment

1. Standard office environment.
2. Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
3. Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

1. Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time.
2. Ability to sit or stand in front of a classroom for an extended period of time.
3. Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $81,000-$92,000
