About The Budd Center:

The mission of The Budd Center is to improve the education system through productive, mutually beneficial, equitable, community-centered partnerships that support education. Because schools need additional support to ensure the success of every child, The Budd Center in SMU's Simmons School of Education equips community stakeholders to work together with schools to meet the needs of children in marginalized communities.

About the Position:

The Assistant Director serves as the data manager and project analyst for The Budd Center and with the West Dallas STEM School (WDSS) project. This position will independently coordinate and assist with data management of data sets, analysis, and reporting tasks within specific timelines. This position will require strong data management skills for both quantitative and qualitative datasets, knowledge of research methods and the ability to share findings in a variety of formats.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate workflow and execute deliverables. Manage intelligent forms/data capture solutions and coordinate forms processing as needed. Develop, execute and troubleshoot systems for managing data across projects. Develop and maintain systems to follow project timelines and protocols for ensuring data files and reports from a variety of sources can be shared with other users and/or can be useful in a variety of data systems or dashboards. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
  • Monitor process and substantiate program effectiveness. Create reports, white papers, literature reviews, and display data to support initiatives to be shared with other departments within the SMU community (including the Center on Research and Evaluation at the Simmons School) and with external agencies and organizations.
  • Manage a broad range of data collection designed to inform and engage the general public and project stakeholders in the work and accomplishments of The Budd Center, its partners, and the West Dallas Stem School. Maintain a reporting calendar. Develop reports to funders, monitoring metrics across The Budd Center and the West Dallas Stem School projects. Develop regular formative reporting for internal professional learning purposes and continuous improvement.
  • Assist Program Managers, Senior Program Managers and/or Executive Directors with developing new project proposals and/or grants. May independently establish new projects.
  • Coordinate communication among nonprofit organizations, faculty, center staff, and other university officials. Assist with project logistics, and preparation for meetings and presentations. Other duties as needed.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred. Field of study in a data-related field, education, social science discipline or related area is required.

At minimum of three years' work experience is required. Data base management and experience with data sets for research is required.

Experience in customer support, clerical activities, and organization of work products is required. Knowledge of internet based resources and processes is essential.

Experience managing FERPA compliant data is preferred

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access is required.

Experience with Qualtrics, Tableau is required. Experience with data processing stats packages such as SAS, SPSS, R, Mplus and PowerBI is preferred. Python and SQL are preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate data to others. Written communication must include excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Candidate must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to interface well with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Candidate must possess excellent organizational skills that include effective planning and project management.

Must be very detail oriented and able to produce highly accurate work.

Candidate must demonstrate strong problem solving skills, critical thinking and analytical skills. Problems are highly varied and may require creative approaches to resolution.

Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively with others.
