Brooks Automation's Precise Collaborative Robotics division produces the world's first inherently safe family of industrial collaborative robots (Cobots) specially designed to operate safely next to people in a wide range of manufacturing, production and research environments. Due to our growth and the incumbent being promoted, Precise is looking for our next Applications Engineering Manager. This will be a Hybrid role based largely out of our Livermore, CA office.

The customer-facing position works closely with and supports Brooks' OEM's, system integrators and distributors to solve their unique and high-value problems by applying our collaborative robots and motion controllers. This role will directly manage a small world-wide, but growing, application engineering team to ensure customer's requirements are addressed timely and with quality. This position will also work cross-functionally with other Brooks engineering, marketing, product development and production teams.

The ideal candidate will promote our growth by becoming the product use-case expert for our customers as well as providing leadership and demonstrating technical prowess to the application engineering team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Ensure key projects, deliverables and team duties are fulfilled in a timely manner.
  • Assign and track tasks given to the application engineering and technical support teams and balance workloads.
  • Manage an inventory of demonstration collaborative robots and peripherals (grippers, cameras, conveyors, etc...).
  • Foster a work environment encouraging continuous learning and growth by being challenged.
  • Work expertly with collaborative robots and motion controllers, including cartesian, SCARA and articulated kinematic models as well as four and six-axis controllers.
  • Utilize your mechanical, electrical and software skills to integrate other mechatronic solutions including servo-grippers, 2D and 3D vision systems, flexible feeders, conveyors, pneumatic and vacuum systems with Brooks' products.
  • Develop proof-of-concept solutions using Brooks' products to help support the sales team.
  • Create and continuously improve demos that will be shown around the world at various industry tradeshows and conferences.
  • Use SolidWorks to design and build mechanical parts as well as robotic work-cell assemblies (brackets, fingers, etc.).
  • Work closely over email, virtual meetings and phone calls with our systems integrators, OEM's and distributors to help best apply our robots in their solutions.
  • Help the sales and marketing staff to identify, assess and prioritize potential customers and applications of our products.
  • Communicate customer needs and wishes to our marketing and product engineering teams.
  • Apply your technical writing and communication skills to document completed demos, proof-of-concepts and hardware integrations in the form of application notes.
  • Support visits to customer sites, visits by customers to Brooks and company participation at tradeshows and conferences.
  • Use your interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with customers and technology partners.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related discipline (Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer) OR 5 to 10 years of experience in Factory Automation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Mechatronic Systems. Experience with Articulated or SCARA robots preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership / management role delivering Object-Oriented programming language or other scripting language projects (VB.Net or Python)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Good understanding of servo control systems (PID, Commutation, etc.).
  • Ability to read and understand CAD drawings, system diagrams and flow-charts.
  • Understanding of motion control, control systems and electrical components.
  • Willingness to travel 33% of the time on a quarterly basis. Travel is predominantly in North America with limited travel to Asia and Europe.
  • Knowledge of machine vision and vision components such as lighting, lenses and other vision peripherals preferred.
