Position Summary:

We are currently looking for an Applications Engineer to join our team at Asahi Kasei Bioprocess! The person in this role will serve as the primary lead for evaluating client technical application/process needs and making recommendations for product configurations and designs. This role will interface directly with clients and the company's Fluid Management Business Unit account managers in US, Europe and Asia. Engage with customer's engineers to understand technical specifications, recommend solutions, and provide process support for the successful implementation of client systems.

Responsibilities:

Technical Bid Package Review and Applications Support:
  • Review bid package specifications such as piping, electrical, controls, materials, process and user requirement specifications. Determine feasibility to comply and provide suggestions for optimized solutions.
  • Confer with customers and engineers to assess equipment needs and to determine system configuration and performance requirements.
  • Perform sizing calculations to verify appropriate component or configuration selection.
  • Liaise with component suppliers to stay up to date on emerging technologies and trends as they relate to customer processes.
  • Develop and maintain relationship with clients, internal project engineers, project managers, outside account managers, and key suppliers.
  • For orders that are won, assist the handoff of the bid package to the internal project engineer during the project kickoff.
  • Consult with customer to clarify ambiguous or conflicting technical specifications in the bid package.

Process Support:
  • Provide onsite and/or remote technical support and troubleshooting for clients.
  • Conduct internal and external training sessions across process types and system operations.
  • Assist commissioning and testing activities, as required, to ensure smooth integration into customer site and operations.
  • Perform live demos and product trials that model client processes.

Sales Support and New Product Development:
  • Work as in-house SME to assist customers with defining specifications, navigating system options, and selecting the correct components.
  • Support and give technical presentations of company's engineered systems and capabilities to customers with outside account managers.
  • Work with Sr. Development and Automation Engineers on form, fit, function decisions and new software feature development.
  • Based on knowledge gained in discussions with end users, advise senior leaders on new product development improvement areas and priorities.
  • Assist creation of application notes and technical notes to showcase product features and functionality.

Additional Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Occasional booth duties at trade shows (2-4 per year) for meeting customers, networking with suppliers and keeping up to date on industry trends.
  • Refine and improve handoffs between Sales and Operations team to drive efficiency
  • Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a project engineering role or comparable inside sales engineering role, and knowledge of project management principles.
  • Experience in bioprocess liquid handling equipment and processes, such as oligonucleotide synthesis, chromatography, and filtration systems preferred.
  • Experience in buffer formulation and preparation preferred.
  • Chemical, Biomedical, Mechanical, or other applicable engineering degree required.
  • MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) experience at master level.
  • Strong customer relations proficiency.
  • Understanding of technical and legal implications of RFQs, Quotes, Exceptions and T&Cs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication aptitude towards a global and multi-cultural customer base.
  • Must be highly detail oriented and able to convey a professional brand image.
  • Strong teamwork and time management skills.
  • Experience using ERP systems is preferred (company uses MS-NAV).
  • Experience using CRM systems is preferred (company uses Salesforce).

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
  • Travel: 6-8 domestic or international trips per year, as needed.
