The Animal Technician will be a key member of the ASB animal facility team and ensure daily husbandry, care, and maintenance for colonies of research rodents. The candidate will need to be based and work out of ASB Medford, MA office.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensure daily husbandry, care, and maintenance for colonies of research rodents (mice, rats, guinea pigs) provided according to company standard operating procedures, IACUC guidelines, and PHS Policy.
  • Assists with maintenance of facility records including temperature, humidity, and animal health according to standard operating procedures.
  • Performs injections, dosing, tissue collection, blood collection, and other animal-related procedures in addition to maintaining a rodent breeding program.
  • Assists with the development of protocols for the IACUC committee and serves on the committee as an affiliated member.
  • Represents the company during USDA and AAALAC inspections.
Job Qualifications and Requirements
  • The minimum requirements for this position are a high school diploma and 1-year of experience in an animal facility or ALAT certification.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic team environment are keys for success.
  • Ability to read and comprehend as well as effectively communicate information to clients and co-workers.
  • Ability to possess and apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instruction as well as complex problem resolution with regard to applicable job-related tasks. Must be detail-oriented, and able to use and apply logic to various instances; ability to perform with little to no supervision on a daily basis, and utilize independent thinking on judgment calls relative to job duties.
